The Bremerton Symphony draws to close a tumultuous 2008-09 season this weekend, with an evening of Mozart and Wagner and Brahams. And while the composers are fairly common, it isn’t likely to be an ordinary night at the symphony.

“Ein deutscher Abend,” they’re calling it, “A German Evening.”

The symphony will play selections from Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman” and Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” while the BSO Concert Chorale will join them for a special rendition of Brahams’ German Requiem. As with any season finale, there’s a certain amount of celebration, or at least an ardent observation of the end of another year.

This year has been anything but just another year.

The symphony performed its first-ever collaboration with the Kitsap Opera in the first half of its season before dismissing its conductor at the start of the second half. And now, in another first, the symphony brings an internationally lauded guest conductor to town: Mr. Hilary Davan Wetton, the storied musical director of the City of London Choir, a retired principal conductor from one of England’s foremost choral groups — the Guilford Choral Society.

Wetton will join the Bremerton Symphony and Chorale for Brahams’ Requiem in the second half of the season finale May 9.
