“Good grief, Charlie Brown,” is right.

The Western Washington Center for the Arts (WWCA) will perform “A Charlie Brown Christmas” starting on Nov. 21 and continue through Dec. 21.

Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., Sundays at 5 p.m. It will close Dec. 21 at 3 p.m.

“A Charlie Brown Christmas” was first aired in 1965 and was received with record-breaking ratings.

Even today’s youth knows about Snoopy and the gang, and their Christmas special still makes its appearance on televisions around the holidays.

Originally created by Charles M. Schulz, Peanuts continues to capture its audience and the recent stage adaptation by Eric Shaeffer is sure to do the same.

This is not the first time, WWCA has performed a Peanuts’ play.

WWCA has performed “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” and “Snoopy and Peanuts.” This will be the first time the group has performed the stage version. With a cast of eight and roughly 12 weeks worth of practice, the show is bound to be as good as its original airing.

WWCA’ advertises the play as “the classic animated television special that comes to life in this faithful stage adaptation where Charlie Brown, Snoopy and other Peanuts grapple with the real meaning of Christmas.”

Special arrangements will be presented with Tams-Witmark Music Library, Inc., and directed by Port Orchard’s Jan Peterson Ewen.

One of the founders of WWCA, Ewen has the experience to do the beloved characters justice. She has directed more than 60 different musicals and plays and has won several vocal awards, including the Metropolitan Opera Audition Award in San Diego.

The award-winning Equity actress has performed on a professional stage in Los Angeles for many years before coming back home to the Pacific Northwest with her family.

“It will be a great show for the kids and their families while being an inexpensive treat for the holidays,” Ewan said.

Before the show, students of Just for Kicks will perform.

Tickets are available for purchase online, at the box office or call at 360-769-7469.
