As I listened to a song titled “Too Many Fathers” written and performed by Donn Allard and Renegade Train, a local band, I enjoyed not only the music, but also the lyrics. The words provide a ton of food for thought.
In the chorus, he addresses the notion than there are “too many fathers and not enough dads.” This says to me that fathers are sperm donors, but dads are the heros who teach their kids how to ride a bike, catch a ball, play soccer, bait a hook plus coach the team, drive the kid’s taxi, help with homework — you get the idea.
Allard also sings, “Too many politicians. We need statesmen in D.C. For too many Democrats and Republicans for me.” This idea applies to the state and local politcians as well as the national-elected officials. At all levels of government, we need leaders who are less worried about re-election next time around and instead are more interested in what is best for America and state, county and city.
I have always championed the idea that “kids bleed purple.” When our kids are kille din war or at a shopping center in Arizona, they don’t bleed red (Republican) or blue (Democrat) — they bleed purple.
Many of them haven’t even voted yet.
For their sake and ours, if you are an elected official, please be a statesman and do the right thing for us.
Do the right thing for America.
