Parks district: Commissioner candidates speak out

Thank you for your strong endorsement on July 23 of the Village Green Metropolitan Park District (MPD) ballot measure. The undersigned are the commissioner candidates who will be elected with passage of the ballot measure. We appreciate your support along with educational value of the facts presented in the editorial.

We also want to clarify our intention to deliver a budget that will not exceed an average tax value of $50 per year. That $50 is roughly equivalent to the 15 cents per thousand your editorial cited as our proposal. The ballot measure voters will see correctly states the limit of an MPD’s taxing authority statewide: 75 cents per thousand. State statute requires that the limit be stated in the ballot language. Community volunteers who are project manager professionals developed cost estimates to arrive at the 15 cent upper limit using benchmarking and data collection from a variety of sources in the public and private sectors. We are confident in this estimate and are on record as committed to the standard the public has observed at the Village Green: Minimum costs, for maximum value to the public.
