The Independent’s Oct. 9 story, “Stokes livid over ‘fluff’ in port’s proposed budget,” generates some thoughts.
Mainly, I want to join Port Commissioner Larry Stokes in his outrage over the port’s spend-and-tax methods of operation.
In a second article in the same issue of the Independent, port commissioner candidate Lynn Horton assures us she would be able to get along very well with port CEO Cary Bozeman.
Keep in mind here folks, this is a person that could not manage or organize a one-car funeral in any elected office she has held.
She is of the same mindset as Bozeman — “spend and then tax.”
She should not be elected to a position on the port commissioners.
It upsets me greatly that Larry Stokes is outnumbered by the rest of the port commissioners when it comes to the fact that Bozeman is unaccountable for finances and can write a $50,000 dollar check anytime he wants without board approval.
That’s what I’m talking about — we the taxpayers have to pay for that after projects are run into financial failure.
Bozeman made it very clear that he wants to be the boss of the port and does not want the board involved except at budget time (a free reign to spend money with no accountability — just lovely).
To Larry Stokes I say: The board hired Bozeman and the board can sure fire him.
Don’t keep him at taxpayer expense. He is going to be a financial ball and chain for taxpayers to drag around.
