We need to initiate a public discussion based around common human values rather than political talking points. This can be accomplished by stating undeniable facts followed by a question, to both educate our leaders and get them to think. Here are some questions to achieve this goal.
It now takes two to three incomes to live as well as one family income did in the past despite a huge growth in the gross national product and worker productivity? Will our continued public policy of trying to grow GDP reverse this trend in our standard of living?
In principle government workers are to serve the public interest, while by law corporations must act to increase value for their shareholders. How will further privatization increase accountability to tax payers? Should BP continue to lead the cleanup effort in the Gulf national disaster?
The Department of Defense in their Quadrennial Report stated it is working to adapt to climate change and limit green house gas emissions. Is the DOD the best federal agency to mitigate climate change?
Our democracy desperately needs educated voters to influence our political process. Please join me and other voters Oct. 12 from 3-6 p.m. at the Kitsap Mall entrance from State Route 3 to encourage fellow citizens to vote on issues that matter.
