Boys & Girls Club needs support

These are some important things to know about our local Boys & Girls Club.

First, the North Kitsap Boys & Girls Club (located in the Kingston Middle School) is now 60 members strong! Thanks go to Katherine Lewis-Hawk, program coordinator, assistants Kim Francisco and Karen Meier; many volunteers including, Dave Hill, Jim Johnston, Elaine Jungst, Toby Kemper, Anja McElvaney, Carol Olsen, Lyn Playle, Pete at Henery’s Hardware, Wanda Rains, and Bobbi Wodtli; and the advisory board: Ginny Bell, Karen Fick, Hal Hoover, Bobbie Moore, Dick and Judy Osborn, Rebecca Pirtle, and, of course, Vice Principal Bill Breakey.

With the help of these volunteers, the kids have: Had guitar lessons (Meyer’s Music in Poulsbo repaired the guitars and restrung them for free!); taken quilting lessons; learned carpentry; produced a cookie cookbook to sell as a fundraiser ($10 each – call Judy at 297-4693 for details); played active games like volleyball; done arts and crafts at least once a week; enjoyed the use of a pool table, ping-pong table, and foosball table; taken time to do homework; enjoyed cooking weekly; held a Monopoly tournament; and, thanks to the generosity of Shannon Harry from American Marine Bank, attended a showing of “Twilight: New Moon” at the Firehouse Theater, refreshments provided by owner Craig Smith.

Third, while the club is affiliated with the Snohomish chapter, the North Kitsap club is being supported entirely by local grants (primarily Suquamish Tribe Appendix X funds) and donations (mainly the Greater Kingston Kiwanis Club – they’re awesome). With that in mind we’ll be having a great fundraiser at the Oak Table Café in the evening on Valentine’s Day, in the early evening, after the regular closing time of the café. It’ll be a black-tie-optional affair with good food and drink, musical accompaniment and a silent auction to benefit the operation of the club for the second half of the year. Our goal is to raise $5,000 at this event.

Your support will make a great year even better for the kids and all who’ve helped.

Bobbie Moore,

Boys & Girls Club

Advisory Board
