New board officers for Kitsap CU

POULSBO — Kitsap Credit Union’s Board of Directors has elected new executive officers.

  • Chairwoman: Wendie Johnson, a Kitsap Credit Union member since 1990. She has a bachelor’s in business administration from Oregon State University and a master’s in legal studies from the University of San Diego. She is also a founding member of the Willow Charitable Foundation, supporting homeless causes across the nation.
  • Vice chairman: Bill Rumbold, a retired Navy Civil Engineer Corps captain and Kitsap Credit Union board volunteer for 14 years.
  • Treasurer: Terry Thomas, who has served as several credit union committees, including the supervisory and investment committees.
  • Secretary: Jim Rowson, whose career includes directorships at several different community organizations and 25 years as Harrison Medical Center’s chief financial officer.

Kitsap Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative serving more than 80,000 members from 17 branch offices.

Class for first-time home buyers

POULSBO — Windermere Real Estate-Poulsbo and Guild Mortgage Company, in conjunction with the Washington State Housing Finance Commission, are offering a free first-time homebuyer education class at April 30, 11 a.m., at Mont Clair Park Assisted Living Center, 1250 NE Lincoln Road, Poulsbo.

This five-hour class is required for first-time home buyers to take advantage of state-sponsored assistance programs. Learn about the many programs available through state and county agencies. Help is usually in the form of below-market interest rates and/or downpayment assistance. Also covered in the class: the State Mortgage Credit Certificate, which saves buyers 20 percent on their federal income taxes; the home-buying process; lending and credit scores; budgeting; the pros and cons of home ownership; home inspections; escrow; and title insurance and agency law.

Vacation rental service opens in Port Gamble

PORT GAMBLE — Fish Tales Vacation Rentals and Real Estate Services has opened in the Post Office building across from the Port Gamble General Store.

Doug and Karla Woodside are the owners.

“The opportunity to joint venture with local businesses to provide experiences to our visitors is abundant, and we want to take advantage of that,” Doug Woodside said.

Karla added, “The opportunity to provide people with comfortable homes and be an integral part of their vacation experience is exciting.”

The Woodsides have been involved in housing and real estate and have been local business owners in North Kitsap since 1989.

The Woodsides network locally and advertise their client homes on nationally recognized websites. They have confirmed rental reservations from parties from all over the United States.

“The proven demand for vacation rental properties allows us to offer our services to more property owners, and we are currently looking to expand our inventory,” Doug said.
