Island Cool Frozen Yogurt buys Mora Iced Creamery

The scoop about Mora Iced Creamery is it’s closing its doors.

But Island Cool Frozen Yogurt of Lynwood Center is buying the business and changing the name to Island Cool Ice Cream.

Mora has been a popular place to get ice cream in Bainbridge Island, Poulsbo and Kingston for years. Owner Mike Brooks is moving on to other endeavors.

Mora was well-known for making ice cream the old-fashioned way, in small batches using fresh milk, cane sugar, ripe fruit and imported chocolate. It’s website says, “Fans of our ‘old-world-style’ ice cream tell us there’s nothing like the rich and creamy taste of Mora.”

Mora opened in 2006 on BI. It served cups, cones, milkshakes, floats, frozen yogurt and parfaits. And it shipped product all over the country. It developed 70 flavors and was able to serve 48 on any given day.

Since 2018 Island Cool, owned by Chris and Melissa Jasperson, has offered a self-serve frozen yogurt bar at Pleasant Beach. Flavors come in nonfat, low-fat, dairy free and no-sugar-added varieties, with numerous toppings available. It offers outdoor seating in summer and a fireplace area for winter.

Its website says since it’s not by the ferry it’s more for locals than tourists. They get to know their regulars and are part of the community—posting flyers on local events, supporting local sports and serving as a drop-off location for gifts and coats during holidays. “We genuinely enjoy being part of the community and being a gathering place for families and friends to come have a treat and a bit of fun.”

Its website also says: “Our mission is to supply customers with the finest quality, all-natural gourmet frozen yogurt with a commitment to nutrition and the potential health benefits associated with live and active culture product. Each flavor is carefully crafted with the finest quality ingredients, such as milk, fruit and millions of beneficial live and active cultures known to promote digestive health.”

It even serves doggie gelato.
