Silver City Automotive, a used car dealership in Silverdale specializing in no-haggle car sales with a retro touch, opened Jan. 3.

Rick Hern, owner, may be better known as president of the Courtesy Auto Group, but his love of classic cars is on display at the ‘50s era soda shop, which has a few oldies on display.

“My philosophy is it’s new to you,” Hern said, noting that the dealership is independent of the Courtesy dealerships.

Leadership Kitsap to host leadership skills building workshop

Leadership Kitsap will provide a leadership skills building workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25 at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort. Networking begins at 8 a.m. The day’s training will include covering leadership roles, assessing group development and effective decision making. It is designed to provide work teams skills and strategies to function more effectively. The event will be beneficial for people in business settings and especially for mediators, attorneys, human resource professionals and social workers. The “Building and Sustaining Effective Teams” workshop will be facilitated by Greg Abell, who is Leadership Kitsap’s board of director and is also board president for the Kitsap County Dispute Resolution Center.

Storybook Parties, acting classes for kids

Storybook Parties offers tea parties for kids on location at clients’ homes or venue despite the closure of a store in June. The price of a two-hour party for up to 10 children starts at $150. Parties include table setting, “tea” and snack, dress-up costumes and face painting.

Acting classes for kids are also available and will begin in February and run through April. There are four classes broken down by age groups with the youngest being 6 years old and the oldest at 18. Asset-Building Coalition to host Information Fair

The Asset-Building Coalition of Kitsap County will host its third Super Saturday Information Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 12, which will be a free event open to the public at Kitsap Community Resources, 845 Eighth Street, Bremerton. AARP tax aides will be present to help with tax preparations and there will be other information available including on financial aid, how to start a business and low-income home ownership.

The purpose of the coalition is to gather local community partners who share similar interests in improving financial education for Kitsap County.

Silverdale 7-Eleven grand opening

The new 7-Eleven store in Silverdale will celebrate its grand opening from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 4. The store will offer complimentary grilled items, drinks, chips and desserts. Visitors will also receive prizes. The store is located at 9671 Silverdale Way.
