I have often ended this column by referencing an ability to see the edge of the page.
My friends, that is where we find ourselves today.
This month will close the project which began when I told my fellow commissioners I would like to write a monthly article letting residents know a little about the things going on “Down at the Port.” The response was, “Really, why would you do that?”
I took a look at the calendar the other day and realized when next month arrives, I will be writing my last “Down at the Port” column.
I have gone through three laptops since I started this little adventure. It is the fourth quarter of this game and my last count is about 121 published editions. I bet my expository writing professor at Central Michigan University would be proud.
My dad used to say, look where there are a lot of boat trailers parked and you will be in a good fishing area. Well, on weekends down at the Port of Kingston, our trailer parking has been maxed out for the past month.
A couple of weeks ago, the Greater Kingston Kiwanis Club held a very successful fundraising Brew Fest event at the Port Tent. It was a great start to the season.
In just two months, the town will be packed with happy people celebrating the Fourth of July. Our Independence Day celebration is by far the biggest event of the year and highlights what a great port facility we have.
We have had some great dancing and foot-stomping music to kick off the Concerts on the Cove series.
I was reading the other day that all the hype about Vitamin D might be a bunch of hooey.
What’s that smell in the air? I think it is people mowing their lawns.
Our new port manager, David Malone, has checked in and hit the ground running.
Wow, only two months left until we turn to another year. It has been 13 years since the big millennium celebration
October always seems like a transition month to me.
Wow! Only three weeks left in the summer of 2013. I think that weather-wise, this has been one of the best.
How about that 4th of July Celebration! It sure was a great day in our town.

Have you made it down to the Farmers Market yet? A nice salad made from those fresh vegetables and topped off with some grilled salmon made a great dinner for me a few days ago.
Spring is finally here! I know because I had to go buy some antihistamines the other day.
I was walking around down at the port with Ray, our head gardener, last week noticing all the little iris, daffodil, tulip and dahlia sprouts starting to poke out of the earth.
The Christmas lights have been stowed away in dozens of hard plastic boxes that are catalogued like the Dewey Decimal System. Soggy sections of our lawn are being repaired and tended to and the staff will be enjoying some well-deserved time indoors at the Big Seattle Boat Show.
Right around the time you are reading this, you might notice that the days are getting, incrementally, just a little bit shorter.
OK, it’s time to switch into full holiday mode. Aren’t you happy that all the political commercials are over with?
Remember when we used to have to go around the house and reset our watches and clocks when Daylight Savings Time started or ended? Now our cell phones, which most of us use for watches, do it automatically.
You may have noticed that Down at the Port was missing last month. took some time away and cruised up into the San Juan Islands and a few of the southern Canadian Gulf Islands.
When summer finally gets here, it sure goes by quickly doesn’t it?
