Football

The Bremerton football team took an early 12-7 lead before allowing 49 unanswered points in a 56-12 loss to Capital at Memorial Stadium on Friday.

The Knights (1-4 overall, 0-3 league), who have dropped four games in a row after opening the season with a victory over winless Klahowya, scored two touchdowns in the first quarter — on Billy Davenport touchdown passes of 65 and 18 yards, respectively — but couldn’t slow down Capital’s Tyler Sundberg, who rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns.

Davenport, working out of a spread attack, completed 19 of 31 passes for 181 yards to go with the two scores.

It was the second time in as many games the Knights allowed 50-plus points, the other coming last week in a 54-24 setback to No. 7 Timberline (5-0). The team is at North Thurston at 7 p.m. Friday.

Girls soccer

The Lady Knights (2-5-0, 0-4-0), coming off a 1-0 victory over Port Townsend, will look to win their second game in a row when they host Sequim at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. The team visits Kingston at the same time Thursday.

Volleyball

After beginning the season with six losses in as many tries, the Lady Knights have a chance to secure their first three-match winning streak under first-year coach Beth Donnelly.

BHS (2-6, 1-3), which took care of Port Townsend 3-2 (14-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-18, 15-10) Oct. 1, two days after beating Klahowya to secure its first win, looks to accomplish that feat at home against Sequim at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Tennis

The BHS boys tennis team has two regular-season matches remaining — today against Olympic and Friday against North Kitsap — before postseason play begins with the Olympic League Tournament Oct. 16.
