Bremerton High School science teacher Emily Wise was one of 48 teachers across the U.S. selected for a National Science Teachers Association fellowship program designed to enhance teaching skills.

Wise was selected among hundreds of applicants for the New Science Teacher Academy in August and the fellowship lasts from September 2010 until the end of the school year in June. Selected teachers are paired with mentors and seek guidance on various science teaching topics.

“I knew I could be a better teacher and learning from other people is the best way to be the best teacher I can,” Wise said. “It’s getting me to examine my teaching and look at how I can be most effective in my classroom.”

Wise has taught environmental science and ninth grade integrated science at Bremerton High School for two years. She came to Bremerton after teaching half a year in her hometown of Yakima.
