The Kingston High School pep band placed third in a radio contest Monday, winning a $2,500 prize.
The contest, sponsored by Seattle radio station KZOK and The Rock Wood Fired Pizza restaurants, pitted 33 high school bands against each other to see who could play the best rendition of a classic rock song. The top prize of $10,000 went to Puyallup High School for its performance of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” Union High took second place and $5,000 for its entry, “Breadfan,” by Budgie.
Kingston High band director Adam Campagna said the band will likely use the money to help pay for a June 12 trip to the Portland Rose Festival.
“We are incredibly happy with the results we got,” he said.
