Registration open for Kitsap County Tennis League

The league is in its 46th season and is meant for intermediate players or better aged 17 and older

Early registration is now open for the Kitsap County Tennis League, a summer recreational league meant for intermediate players or better for applicants 17 and older.

The league is in its 46th year and provides eight weeks of play at tennis courts around Kitsap County in Silverdale, Port Orchard, Bremerton and Poulsbo.

The season will start with a jamboree at 9 a.m. on June 1 at two locations: South Kitsap High School and the new tennis courts at Central Kitsap High School. All league entrants are encouraged to attend one of these locations.

League organizers will observe each participant’s skill set at the jamboree and confirm their level of play. Advanced is over 3.5, high intermediate/advanced is 3.5, high intermediate is 3.0 and intermediate is 2.5 to 3.0 on a scale measured by organizers. Last year’s membership reached 126 participants, with six teams consisting of 18 to 19 players.

Players will then be divided up into teams that will include players at all four levels, with a goal of creating equally skilled teams. A secondary goal will be to group players by where they reside. League play will begin the following Saturday, June 8, with opposing team captains pairing players of similar skill levels for team matches.

There will be no matches scheduled on July 6 due to the Fourth of July weekend. June 22 and 27 have been set aside for the league tournament. The league picnic will take place immediately after match competition on the final day of league play on Aug. 17. The picnic has been tentatively scheduled for Lions Park, with food and drinks provided by the league. Awards will also be given out at that time.
