POULSBO — Deadline for applications for appointment to Poulsbo City Council Position 7 is 4:30 p.m. Jan. 16. And the lineup so far includes some familiar names.
Among the applicants: Ricky D. Moon, a building contractor who ran for mayor in November; and Paul Tweiten, president of Pacific Forest Products and author of “Far Eastern Overexposure,” a memoir of his time managing a timber harvest organization in the Russian Far East. City Clerk Rhiannon Fernandez said last week she expects an application from Abby Garland, a mom of three and a registered dietitian who ran for Position 7 as a write-in candidate in November.
Position 7 became vacant when the winner of the Nov. 7 election, John R. Bukowsky, said he couldn’t serve because of the demands of his regular day job. The person appointed to the position will serve until the results of the November 2019 general election are certified. The Position 7 council member will receive $9,000 a year.
The City Council enacts legislation, develops policies, and makes general decisions for governing the city. Council duties include adopting and amending city laws; approving the budget; establishing city policies and standards; approving contracts and agreements; and representing the city.
The council meets at 7 p.m. the first three Wednesdays of each month in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. Other meeting requirements include attendance at council committee meetings, liaison appointments and occasional special meetings.
Application packets are available at City Hall, 200 NE Moe St., third floor; or online at www.cityofpoulsbo.com.
Applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. Jan. 16; a mailing postmark date will not be acceptable. Qualified applicants will be interviewed by the City Council on Jan. 27.
