HANSVILLE — In previous years, the Hansville Ladies’ Aid group has pulled out all the stops for its home tour, including enough seasonal flair to get anyone ready for the upcoming holidays.
The event, which started a few years ago, was almost an accidental fund raiser, said Ladies’ Aid member Barbara Lund. Participants refused to be paid for showing their homes, and so the group kept the money, putting it toward maintenance of the local cemetery.
“The next year, we kept it in Hansville again, and we had about six houses that were on the tour,†she said. “We do have a really fun time with it.â€
This year will also feature six homes. The event has become something that most Hansville residents look forward to, Lund said.
“Word got around,†she said.
Now, the group has no problem finding homeowners to participate, she said. Most homeowners know when the tour is held and contact the Ladies’ Aid if they are interested.
“There are some really beautiful homes,†Lund said. “They really are gussied up for the tour. It really is a beautiful thing to behold — all these houses decorated for the holidays.â€
The group typically collects between $1,000-$1,200, which goes directly to taking care of the Hansville Cemetery, she said. It is usually enough to cover a few lawn mowings and maintenance.
“This is such a no-brainer fund raiser for us,†Lund said. “We have so much fun doing it, and we earn enough money to keep the fund going.â€
