Great Lighthouse Hunt includes Point No Point

Come fly your kite at the Point No Point Lighthouse during a special event 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 14. Sponsored by the Friends of Point No Point Lighthouse, Kites Over the Light is part of the Washington Lightkeepers Association Great Lighthouse Hunt 2007.

Activities at the Kites Over the Light include kite flying (kites will be available to purchase for $1 or bring your own), a bluegrass band, docent-guided lighthouse tours, face painting and sand arts crafts for kids provided by Kitsap County Facilities Parks and Recreation.

This is the first event the sponsored by the Friends of Point No Point Lighthouse. For more information, go to the Friends of Point No Point Lighthouse at www.pointnopointlighthouse.com.

Point No Point Lighthouse docent-guided tours take place 1-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through September. Special group tours may be arranged. Donations are accepted for preservation of the historical Point No Point Lighthouse.

“I’ve Seen the Lights”

Kites Over the Light is part of the Washington Lightkeepers Association Great Lighthouse Hunt. Receive a free map at the Point No Point light that shows lighthouse locations.

With each visit to a participating lighthouse, the map gets stamped. Once completed, send it in and receive a “I’ve Seen the Lights” certificate and special event magnet from WLA.

“Keeper Kids’ summer fun lighthouse packet

Help your favorite kid learn about lighthouses.

Send $10 to Washington Lightkeepers Association for a packet of lighthouse activities to make summer more fun – puzzles, coloring pages, stories, a magnet, stickers, craft ideas, lighthouse map, scavenger hunt, “Keeper Kid” certificate, and more.

Lighthouse photo contest

“A Little Light Comedy” is the theme of a photo contest sponsored by Washington Lightkeepers Association. Have fun taking pictures of lighthouses, compose funny images on site at a lighthouse, or be creative with a Photoshop program and enhance photos to make them comical.

Two winners in each category – composed image and enhanced image. First place winners each receive $75 and second place is $25. Winners also get a Harbour Lights “Little Light,” and a year of free membership in WLA. Deadline is Dec. 31. Go to www.walightkeepers.com for details.
