Sounds of crab legs cracking and the aromas of sweet, melted butter and even lasagna will drift across the Washington Narrows as the inaugural Crackin’ for Chuck’s KIDS event is held tonight at the Bremerton Sons of Norway lodge.

The festivities kick off at 6 p.m., and tickets are still available at $25 per person.

“We wanted to develop a winter fund raiser for the Chuck Semancik Foundation and (board member) Ryan Nickels thought this would be the perfect gig,” fellow board member Marty Neyman said.

The Semancik Foundation actively helps students in Bremerton and the proceeds from the event will go to the foundation’s scholarship fund.

In addition to mountains of crab, lasagna will be available for those who aren’t exactly fond of the seafood delicacy, but still want to contribute to a great cause.

Cole slaw, baked beans and dinner rolls will round out the menu, and beer, wine and soda will be available to help wash it all down.

After dinner, guests will be invited and encouraged to participate in an auction, which features everything from Marvin Williams memorabilia to local art and jewelry, Neyman said.

“Being that this is our first hosting of the Crab Feed we are being

modest in our expectations and hope to make $3,000 to $5,000,” he said.

The main goal of the event is to aid the foundation in its efforts to expand its scholarship offerings to deserving students through a renewable scholarship, he said.

“This fundraiser is key to ensuring the ongoing success of the renewable scholarship,” Neyman said.
