Man arrested for theft; police find items from 5 stores

A Sumner man was charged with stealing jewelry and other items from several downtown Poulsbo businesses Feb. 13.

POULSBO — A Sumner man was charged with stealing jewelry and other items from several downtown Poulsbo businesses Feb. 13.

Gary R. Jakaub, 60, is charged with second-degree theft after more than $2,000 worth of jewelry was found in his possession.

An employee of Bad Blanche boutique called 911 after seeing several items missing on the afternoon of Feb. 13, and described a man matching Jakaub’s description. Poulsbo police officers discovered Jakaub down the street from Bad Blanche, and a search of his pockets recovered $468 worth of silver charms, a $50 wristwatch, a $300 jade pendant and $60 worth of silver bracelets, which the employee identified.

In addition, officers also found several items from other downtown businesses that were identified as stolen in Jakaub’s possession, including jewelry from Cargo Hold, Blue Heron Jewelry, Nordic Maid, and  Bluewater Artworks Gallery. Officers also found unidentified pills and 1 gram of marijuana in Jakaub’s pockets.

He was booked into Kitsap County Jail on Feb. 13 and remains held on $10,000 bail. His next court date is Feb. 28 at 8:30 a.m.
