Kenney receives Navy award of excellence

POULSBO — John M. Kenney, a Poulsbo lawyer and Navy Reserve officer, has received the Rear Admiral Hugh H. Powell Jr. Award of Excellence (Senior Officer) for “outstanding contributions to the Naval Reserve Law Program.”

The award was presented by the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Kenney is a Navy commander in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps.

The award was named after Howell, the first director of the Naval Reserve Law Program.  Kenney received the award in 2007 as a junior officer, and joins the ranks of the few to have received the award on two occasions.

Keney, of the firm Luce Lineberry & Kenney PS, has offices in Poulsbo and Tacoma and provides a range of legal services, including personal injury and bankruptcy.

Tyler leads plant show at major conventionINDIANOLA — M.J. Tyler of Indianola, a master gardener and chair of the local chapter of the Gesneriad Society, chaired the society’s international convention flower show and plant sale at the Renaissance Hotel in Seattle, July 6-7.

Gesneriad (pronounced “guess-NARE-ee-ad” or “jez-NARE-ee-ad”) is a family of more than 2,500 species of plants, including the African Violet.
