The Bainbridge High School girls cross country team won the second Olympic League cross-country meet of the season in Sequim Sept. 20.

For the boys, Kingston and Bainbridge tied for first with 58 points teach.

Spartan Mairin O’Brien won the girls race with a time of 20 minutes, 43.22 seconds, nearly a minute faster than any other runner. Teammate Claire Hungerford finished ninth in 23:07.96, Elise Gonzales 10th in 23:17.75 and Hailey McCulloch 11th in 23:36.16. As a team, they recorded 52 points.

Kingston finished third out of eight teams with 86 points. Emmie McGrew was the Buccaneers’ top runner, finishing 12th in 23:43.78. Biyanca Parker-Henson finished 17th in 24:35.49 and Sophia Brown 18th in 24:37.21.

Olympic finished fourth with 111 points. Trojan Brynn Fulton was sixth in 22:43.65, Sophia McDonald 13th in 24:20.16 and Cassia Whittier 28th in 26:30.73.

North Kitsap fell to sixth with 115 points. Georgia Nelson placed seventh in 22:52.04, Corinne Aala 16th in 24:30.89 and Kathryn Mixer 30th in 27:03.59.

Bremerton rounded out the Kitsap schools by finishing seventh with 137 points. Salleen Mattivi finished second in 21:23.34, Ruby Hyde 15th in 24:27.45 and LaVon Thompson 38th in 28:38.77.

In the boys race, the Buccaneers had two in the top three while the Spartans had five in the top 15.

Kingston’s Lucas Lenz won the meet with a time of 16:41.77—40 seconds faster than the next runner. Teammate Emmanuel Moes finished third in 17:49.35 and Timothy Clark-Johnston 12th in 18:53.22.

Spartans’ Marcus Stroman finished sixth in 18:12.94, Ben Crandall 10th in 18:26.24, and Miles Fuss 13th in 19:11.42.

Olympic ended up third with 76 points. Samuel Bonsell finished second in 17:22.39, Joshua Turner fourth in 18:09.55 and Justin Jaramillo 11th in 18:32.20.

North Kitsap finished fifth led by Viking Quinny Stuart, who finished fifth individually in 18:09.80. Miles Bearden finished 22nd in 19:52.94 and Liam Johnson 27th in 20:14.24.

Bremerton placed sixth as a team. Joshua Leuders was seventh in 18:13.97, Asher Stewart ninth in 18:24.64 and CJ Halfhill 37th in 21:12.96.
