In honor of Mother’s Day, food to make meals on that special day was handed out to veterans and their families May 11.

Students and staff at Sunnyslope Elementary School participated, along with members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Port Orchard.

Rose Green with the VFW auxiliary said: “Everybody already does Thanksgiving, Christmas baskets and things like that to help other families. What about the rest of the year?”
