Locals named to all-league teams

Kitsap County high schools had some of the best talent in the Olympic League this season for basketball, including Co-MVPs Harry Davies and Cade Orness of North Kitsap.

In addition, Davies, a junior, picked up Defensive Player of the Year. His season stats were 24 points per game on 62.5% field goal shooting, along with 4.9 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.6 assists per game.

Orness saved his best performance for last, dropping 30 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds against Tumwater in the state playoffs. He also earned over 1,000 points in his high school career, and he’s only a junior.

Bainbridge’s Sam Nylund and Kingston’s Dakota Standley rounded out the first-team in the league. Nylund’s top moment was a career-high 33 points against Kingston. Standley was the Bucs’ premier scorer, scoring over 20 points in multiple games.

Olympic’s Malakai Quinene, Bremerton’s Sam Tucker, Bainbridge’s Noah Davis, and North Kitsap’s Mason Chiemelewski finished second-team all-league. Trojan Jaden Bluitt, Spartan Peyton Sprangers and Viking Ethan Gillespie were honorable mentions.

Davis and Gillespie also earned the sportsmanship award for their teams. In addition, Olympic’s Tristan Bluitt, Bremerton’s Trevon Pietz, Kingston’s Cash Hubbard, and Vikings’ Clay Averts also won that award.

On the girls side, Sequim’s Jolene Vara won MVP. However, Viking Sophia Baugh and Spartan Bella Ramirez finished first-team all-league.

Baugh, who won MVP for volleyball in the fall, carried the Vikings this season by averaging over 10 points per game. Ramirez led the Spartans to their first playoff run in four seasons and recorded the first triple-double in school history.

Olympic’s Mailli Bode, Kingston’s Jayla Moon and Bainbridge’s Elsa Cajune filled out the second team. Spartan Ghadir Ramadan, Knight Tulip Carter and Viking Jade Sunnenberg were honorable mentions.

The sportsmanship awards were given to Bainbridge’s Sierra Berry, Bremerton’s Promise Bell, Kingston’s Taizah Franklin, Sunnenberg, and Bode.
