Three South Kitsap High students and SK DECA members — Delaney DeTray (left), Rowan Morris and Delaney Johnson — decided to “change the game” by organizing a successful fundraising event, called Bowling For A Cause on Oct. 19 at High Joy Bowl in Port Orchard.

The result? The trio, aided by their DECA chapter and community members, raised $5,834 for the South Kitsap Special Olympics organization. In addition to collecting money for bowling activities, the team gathered donations, ticket sales receipts and dollars from silent auction baskets.

The DECA students said that prior to the event in October, they had pre-sold 121 tickets. Another 44 tickets were sold at the door on the day of the event. The total number of bowlers that night, they said, was 136. Twenty-three South Kitsap businesses donated items for the auction and 25 silent-auction baskets were bid on. The silent auction alone, they said, brought in $1,068 for Special Olympics.
