Keeping the time in Kingston

Kingston’s old ferry clock was recently re-installed at its new home in the recently completed Port of Kingston Kiwanis Park, following refurbishments by local horologist George Pease.

The clock, installed Monday, is a reproduction of a Brown Street style clock, Pease said in a recent interview.

The whole process has taken around three months, said Terry Asla, communications coordinator for the Port of Kingston. The clock originally belonged to the Washington State Department of Transportation, but WSDOT later covered it up after commuters complained of missing their boats because the time was off.

With Pease’s improvements, Asla said, the previous issues have been remedied and the clock is now ready to take on a new, more accurate life, keeping Kingston commuters on time.
