At 7 p.m. on on Friday, May 18, the documentary “I Am Not Your Negro” will be shown at the Suquamish United Church of Christ.
The film serves as a memoir of race and racism in America through the writing and vision of the influential black gay author James Baldwin. Inspired by Baldwin’s unfinished writing, the film draws upon Baldwin’s notes on the lives and assassinations of Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King Jr. to explore and bring a fresh and radical perspective to the current racial narrative in America.
The event will be sponsored by Free Range Films, a collaboration of North Kitsap 99% and Ground Zero Center. Following the screening, a discussion will be led by Airen Lydick a local racial justice activist.
The Suquamish United Church of Christ is located at 18732 Division Avenue NE.
