POULSBO — The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a 57-year-old woman who was fatally injured just before 7 a.m. Jan. 21 in a vehicle collision on Clear Creek Road near Orweiler Road.

Carolyn Marie Shaw of Poulsbo died at the scene. A construction worker had used his own tools to remove her from her vehicle and had conducted CPR on her, with other bystanders assisting, until medics arrived, Poulsbo Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Matson reported. Medics took over but were not able to revive her.

Poulsbo Fire Department, Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue, and Navy Region Northwest responded to the scene at 6:44 a.m.

“It was a great example of citizen CPR,” Poulsbo Battalion Chief Chris Morrison said in a statement issued by the department. “They gave [Shaw] the best chance they could have.”

Shaw was driving a small compact vehicle. The 37-year-old male driver of a mid-sized Ford SUV was transported to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton with serious injuries, Matson reported.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash. Information will be reported here as it is made available.

To date, five people have died in vehicle collisions in Kitsap County since Jan. 1, according to sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson. Eighteen died in 2015.
