Buccaneers have strong showing at PT Invite | Cross country

PORT TOWNSEND — The Kingston Buccaneers showed what they could do with a first- place team finish at the league meet at Port Townsend on Oct. 15.

Kingston’s Izumi Nance led the Bucs with a second place finish in 13:30.

The Bucs finished ahead of Port Townsend (43) and Olympic (57).

The Bucccaneers’ girls team had a tight grouping that led to a first-place finish. Kingston seniors Alexa Benjamin (13:39), Sarah DeAscentiis (13:49), Ashley Spooner (14:05) and sophomore Maeve Boon (14:05) finished in the top 10 to add to Kingston’s low score.

Nance was narrowly defeated by Port Townsend senior Hanna Trailer (13:14).

The Buccaneers’ boys team finished the meet last with 58, behind Port Townsend (32) and Olympic (36). Port Townsend senior Ryan Clarke finished first in 9:56. Kingston’s Alexander Winn took third in 10:32, behind Olympic’s Logan Dean (10:24).

The boys’ JV team took first, with Kingston freshman Colin Walmsley taking fourth in 12:05.

The win for the Bucs’ girls team followed a third place finish during the open invite at Battle Point Park Oct. 8. The Bucs bested their North Kitsap rivals and five other teams.

The Bucs’ girls team took third during the open invite with 105 points.

Kingston senior Alexa Benjamin set the pace for the Bucs with an 11th place finish in a time of 21 minutes 35.58 seconds.

Kingston’s Izumi Nance finished 19th (22:26.05); Maeve Boon took 24th (22:39.96); Sarah DeAscentiss 27th (22:54.61); Ashley Spooner 36th (23:45.61); Emma Smith 50th (24:49.62); and Abby Ukich 87th (27:09.70).

Junior Varsity and Varsity ran together during the meet.

The North Kitsap girls finished fourth, with 141.

North Kitsap freshman Anneli Seaberg took 15th in 21:53.33.

Seaberg was followed by Maria Warns who took 23rd, in 22:36.33; Bethany Cleaver, 48th, (24:40.84); Amber Christly, 53rd (25:01.31); Lydia Sedy, 54th (25:10.01); Rachel Henden, 61st (25:24.43); Abby Ryan, 81st (26:54.86); Anna Rutledge, 106th (29:20.07); and Olivia Smallbeck, 123rd (35:46.78).

The North Kitsap boys finished fourth as well with 127 points.

North Kitsap senior Samuel Stickney was the fastest runner for the boys, finishing 17th in 18:17.70. He was followed by Ethan Schmitt, 20th (18:27.22). And runners in the top 100, Conrad Schauer, 29th (18:47.32); David Blalock, 39th (19:06.98); Anthony Dionisio, 41st (19:14.89); Jakob Anderson, 42nd (19:15.49); Karsten Hald, 47th (19:27.96); Erick Powell, 48th (19:27.98); Timothy Lara, 76th (20:23.73); Ryan Beatty, 84th (20:35.01); Alexander Chow, 95th (20:53.41); Kellson Arthurs, 100th (20:59.36).
