Athletic Med students top State competition

VANCOUVER, WASH. — Athletic Medicine students from North Kitsap High School returned from the State Sports Medicine Competition with top placements.
As a team, North Kitsap earned second place with 1478 combined points. A total of 40 schools participated. North Kitsap was 11 points away from taking first. Wenatchee took first with 1488.
Along with the team’s top finish, North Kitsap’s Lindsey Foster, Hannah Johnson and Amanda Ladner all took first for individual tests.
Foster earned a score of 259 for individual scores, ahead of Wenatchee’s Amy Mugg (251). Foster was also the “Top Senior,” which takes test scores and multiplies it by grade point average.
North Kitsap’s Abbey Swanson took fourth in individual scores, Ashley Mueller took seventh, Jocelynn Wright took 15th, April McCabe took 28th and Jennifer Lovato took 30th.
Johnson earned the top score with the anatomy/physiology test, totaling 74 in written and identification. Johnson was a single point ahead of Venice’s Jose Banuelos (73).
North Kitsap’s Caroline Kroon took 19th in anatomy/physiology testing.
Ladner took the top score in medical terminology with 85 points. She outscored Issaquah’s Jessica Oda and North Kitsap’s Colleen Mitchell, who tied for second with 82 points.
Also competing were Kelsey Blasberg, Scott Bothe, Karin Muggli and Taylor Corrigan.
In the CPR practical, Blasberg took ninth place. Bothe took 62nd.
In the resume/interview test, Muggli took 16th, Corrigan took 21st. Individually, that is the best North Kitsap has ever done, according to Athletic Medicine instructor Chris Franklin.
