Walk/Jog-A-Thon raises more than $13,000

POULSBO — The students of Poulsbo Elementary School were awarded Wednesday for raising more than $13,000 during the PTSA’s Walk/Jog-A-Thon in October.

Of the money raised, approximately $11,500 is profit.

Students raised the money through pledges. Of the participants, kindergartener Kira Golden raised the most with $592. The top fundraisers for each grade were awarded Webkinz or Toys-R-Us gift certificates.

The money will be used for the PTSA’s ongoing programs, such as assemblies, community events and classroom grants. Poulsbo Elementary Principal Tim Garrison said each teacher is receiving $250 from the PTSA this year for classroom materials.

A portion of the money raised from the event will also go toward the school’s playground project. The project, which was set as a priority of the PTSA last year, includes fencing upgrades for the perimeter of the playground and improving the paved play area — resurfacing, etc.

“They’re a really big support for the education of our students,” Garrison said.
