A day to honor vets

Here are some of the events in Central Kitsap and Bremerton to mark Veteran’s Day:

Active duty military members and veterans, plus their families, are invited to the Bremerton Elks Lodge, 4131 Pine Rd. NE, Bremerton, Thursday to trade stories beginning at 7:30 p.m. To take part in the dinner beforehand at 6 p.m., call (360) 479-1181 for reservations.

The Clearbrook Inn in Silverdale, at 12295 Schold Rd. NW, will recognize veterans and celebrate the 100th anniversary of Boy Scouts of America Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. There will be refreshments, a certificate presentation, flag ceremony and the reading of Old Glory. The Kitsap County Veteran’s Day Event will be held at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, 1200 NW Fairgrounds Rd., Bremerton. Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Barry Bridger, a six-year “Hanoi Hilton” prisoner of war, will be the guest speaker. The pavilion at the fairgrounds will open at 9 a.m. with the formal ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Knights of Columbus and the Naval Sea Cadets will perform color guard duties.
