Vikings trampled by Spartans

In a non-league season opener against the Bainbridge Island Spartans, the North Kitsap Vikings were overrun by the Spartans offense.
The Viking defense started strong, sacking the Spartans quarterback on the third play of the game. But the Vikings could not keep the momentum, resulting in a 42-12 loss.
The first half of the game resulted in back-to-back touchdowns by the Spartans without a Viking response. A punt block by the Spartans, resulting in a touchdown and then a Viking fumble in the final seconds of the first quarter, put the Spartans up 27-0.
Before halftime, things for the Vikings did not pick up.
The second quarter started with a safety on the Vikings, followed by a pass interception by the Spartans that would leave the Vikings down 36-0.
Things would hardly pick up for the Vikings in the second half, with two touchdowns, and the rivalry game would end with a Spartan victory.
The Vikings play an away game against the Centralia Tigers at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10.
