South Kitsap Fire and Rescue (SKFR) crews were dispatched Thursday night to 911 reports of a T-bone crash at the intersection of Bethel Burley and Mullenix Road.

At approximately 9 p.m., the two vehicles collided, causing a 59-year-old Belfair man to be trapped inside his car.

SKFR Engine 11 and Medic 17 responded with the Jaws of Life.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters initiated extrication measures in order to transport the man to Tacoma General Hospital.

“We transported him to a trauma center due to the significance of the mechanism of injury based on the impact from the other vehicle,” said SKFR Battalion Chief Doug Richards. “There was a large amount of front end damage due to the front end axle and left front wheel being torn away.”

According to Richards, rescue crews had to cut away the sidewall of the vehicle to remove and stabilize the man.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 29-year-old male from Port Orchard, suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.

It is unknown at this time if any charges will result from the collision.
