SHINE — The Hood Canal Bridge reopened to traffic eight days ahead of schedule.

The first car crossed the new State Route 104 about 10:19 p.m. Wednesday after the State Department of Transportation and the project contractor Kiewit General completed 20 successful test openings of the new floating bridge’s center draw span.
