Kingston readies for EcoFest

EcoFest has grown in popularity as a way to celebrate Earth Day in Kitsap County, according to Stillwaters Environmental Education Center administrative director Naomi Maasberg. “EcoFest is a community celebration, with a huge selection of more than 50 exhibitors and displays to delight you with all kinds of enviro-education & eco-friendly products, from electric bikes to bamboo floors.”In addition to “great music, food, and entertainment all day, the children’s area will be expanded this year to include nature crafts, live farm animals, face painting and fun for all ages,” she said.Several mini-events will be taking place on site, she added. The native plant nursery will be open for sales. Mike Pratt from West Sound Wildlife Shelter will be bringing one of the shelter’s owls. The popular Fiddle Tunes by Hank Veenstra are scheduled to play. And Spanish translators will be available.Stillwaters’ EcoFest begins at 11 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m., but Kingston has other events that are coordinating with the festival to make it a town-wide celebration, Maasberg said.

Park at the Port of Kingston Marina or Bayside Church, where there is plenty of parking and a shuttle to EcoFest, the Farmers Market, the Kingston Garden Club Plant Sale, and the Friends of the Library book sale. “This year’s fest promises to be one of the best ever,” she added.
