A Glance at the Past: Another pioneer barn

Our photo this month is of a barn on a working farm. It was taken in early March.
Sara Parrington raises Herefords on the farm. On sunny afternoons they are often seen in the pasture located beside the Jefferson Point Road as one drives east from South Kingston Road.
Frank and Ida Longmate owned and developed the farm, settling the land early in the 20th century. One of their sons, Elmer, and his wife Agnes lived on the farm after their marriage in 1949, raising their children there and caring for the elder Longmates as the parents aged.
This barn has been repaired and maintained, as needed, keeping it in very good condition for its age. The barn was rather severely damaged during the Columbus Day storm of 1962.
Brought to you by the Kingston Historical Society. We really need more stories and copies of early photos of the Kingston area. Feel free to contact president Harriet Muhrlein at 360-297-2448 or mail us at Box 333, Kingston, 98346.
