Season ends early for King’s West volleyball

Back-to-back losses at the SeaTac League Tournament Nov. 1 ended the King’s West volleyball season.

The Lady Warriors (11-6 overall, 9-4 league) dropped a first-round match against Christian Faith 3-0 before falling short in a loser-out match against Seattle Lutheran, also 3-0.

First-year coach Lesley Doyle hoped to lead the team to the Tri-District Tournament after inheriting a team absent of three key players — Megan Spence, Megan Morris and Hillary Sexauer, all of whom graduated — but fell shy of her goal.

The team loses seniors Hannah Fontenot, Liz Johnson, Irene Moore and Amanda Patterson to graduation, but returns Amy Cooper, Rae Fu, Meaghan Houser, Samantha Kappert, Jill Morris, Brie Seeley and Chelsea Tennesen.

The KW boys kickers started the Tri-District tournament on the wrong foot Tuesday, losing against Shoreline Christian 4-2.

Andy Lee scored two goals to keep the Warriors (9-7, 6-6) in the game. But the KW defense had no answer for SC (10-4, 9-2), which received two goals from Ben Novlon and single goals from Travis Einfield and Travis Hudson.

The Warriors, however, had a chance to redeem the loss by winning a loser-out game against Providence Classical Christian (8-5-1, 8-3-1) Thursday.

Results from that game were unavailable at press time. KW would advance to another loser-out game with a win, but would be eliminated with a loss.
