Crews from Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue (CKFR) and Navy Region Northwest Fire and Emergency Services responded to a large fire around 4 p.m. Monday on Selbo Road NW off of Tracyton Boulevard in Central Kitsap.
Neighbors called 911 around 3:50 p.m. when they noticed flames shooting from the abandoned home in the woods, according to CKFR.
Due to the size of the fire and limited hydrant water flow, several water tenders responded to supply the amount of water needed to combat the blaze.
The abandoned two-story log cabin was destroyed in the blaze and the second story of the boarded-up cabin collapsed as fire crews blasted it with water. A trailer about 150 feet from the house also caught fire and was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
Puget Sound Energy responded and secured power to the home. Neighbors were temporarily without power as crews battled the fire. Power was restored to neighboring homes around 7 p.m., according to CKFR.
The log cabin’s owner said the home was slated for demolition in preparation for a 17-lot subdivision, according to CKFR spokeswoman Theresa MacLennan.
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office and Kitsap County Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire, which appears suspicious at this time, according to the Fire Marshal’s Office.
