Downtown Kingston a priority for county

PORT ORCHARD — There’s a new priority in Kitsap County’s Department of Community Development (DCD): a master plan for downtown Kingston.
The DCD, which oversees community advisory groups such as Kingston Citizens Advisory Council (KCAC), is forming a citizen sub-committee to help prepare the plan during community workshops.
According to a press release from Kitsap County Board of Commissioners, the sub-committee will be hosted by the KCAC starting in late October or the start of November.
The intent of the sub-committee is to coordinate a vision shared by Kingston’s businesses and residents to help push for and follow through with projected projects, the release states. One project cited is the Village Green project, which will provide the town with an open grassy area, a new Community Center and low-cost senior housing.
“This master plan will build a core to downtown that attracts outsiders and services locals,” states current North End Commissioner Steve Bauer in the press release.
The planning process is expected to take half the 2009 year. To volunteer, contact Pete Sullivan, DCD associate planner at psulliva@co.kitsap.wa.us or (360) 337-7181.
