The Trillium School of Indianola, in collaboration with North Kitsap private schools, has organized a Choices in Education Fair to be held 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Sons of Norway Hall, 18891 Front Street, Poulsbo. This new event will showcase 11 local private schools, allowing families the opportunity to find out about many of the educational options available in North Kitsap. Admission is free.
“Just as each of us as individuals is different, and have different learning styles, different types of educational philosophies may best suit our needs,” said Kirsten Jewel, co-founder of Trillium School. “And, while we have many excellent public schools, they
all are based on one educational paradigm, which is mandated at the state level. Fortunately, in North Kitsap there is also an array of other excellent educational opportunities, including many well-established educational philosophic approaches, such as Montessori, Waldorf and Sudbury. People always want to make informed decisions when making important choices about their children. This fair is geared to help make the information gathering easier.”
In addition to private and alternative educational opportunities, Jewel said, the Choices in Education Fair also includes representatives from some public school programs that have embraced different educational approaches including the North Kitsap Parent Assisted Learning Program, Spectrum Community School and the North Kitsap Options Program.
Schools will have informational booths at the fair and each will give a presentation about its educational philosophy. Attending families can drop-in for as long as they choose.
Participating schools include Silverwood School, Madrona School, Voyager Montessori Elementary School, Poulsbo Adventist Christian School, North Kitsap Options Program, The Trillium School, Commodore Options School, North Kitsap Parent Assisted Learning Program (PAL), Spectrum Community School and Cardin Country School.
The schools each offer opportunities for different age ranges, but collectively cover the K-12 age range.
The event is supported by corporate sponsorship from Grounds for Change and Sound Reprographics.
