Town News: From the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce

Published 9:00 am Monday, October 30, 2006

The Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce sponsored two successful activities in September and is pleased to announce that both will become annual events.

The first was an elegant wine tasting organized by Katrina Jafek and held at the Kingston Art Gallery. The event raised money for the chamber’s charity fund that assists the needs of our town. Thank you, Katrina, for all your hard work and planning to make it the success it was. A special thanks goes out to the art gallery for graciously assisting and donating nine beautiful art pieces for the silent auction.

Heritage Day owes its success to all the hard-working people involved in the Kingston Revitalization Association, the Kingston Historical Society, Kingston Christian Church, Rotary, owners of participating tractors and antique cars, The Home Town Band, White Potato Band, Sho’Nuff Catering and the Filling Station.

A taste of the old West was made possible by Eric and Brice Lee, who furnished us with a jail for the day. Thanks to our distinguished sheriff’s and U.S. marshal who patrolled the streets and kept our town safe and on the straight and narrow! S&J Graphics is responsible for our Heritage Day banner and Doug Field took on the task of hanging it across the road for us. Thank you American Marine Bank, Kingston Lumber, Thriftway, Rotary and Henery Hardware for your financial contributions. Thank you to everyone who dressed in period costumes for Heritage Day and helped play a part in the day’s success. Everyone had a wonderful time and we look forward to an even bigger celebration next year!

With the holidays just around the corner our thoughts go out to those folks who may not have enough food to feed their family. The Kingston Art Gallery has added a barrel for food donations to ShareNet ood Bank to help out with the current food shortage in our town. There are also plans to contribute to the Kingston Food Bank run by Vi Weaver and located in the VFW Hall. Kingston Thriftway also has a food donation barrel, as does Kingston Christian Church. It doesn’t take much on each of our parts to make a big difference for those in need.

A special thanks to Lynnette Straight and her Second Chance store for giving people an opportunity to buy cloths they can feel proud to wear at a price most all can afford.

If you are a merchant in Kingston and wish to help, call Lisa Robinson at ShareNet, (360) 297-2266 or Vi Weaver at Kingston Food Bank, (360) 297-3277.

The next After-Hours Networking event takes place from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 15 at Bayside Community Church in Kingston.
