The hunt is on: Easter egg scramble Saturday at South Kitsap Regional Park

SOUTH KITSAP — Kids, be on the lookout for the Easter Bunny this weekend: It’s a cinch he will make an appearance at the South Kitsap Regional Park’s 24th annual free Easter egg hunt at noon on Saturday, April 15.

The Easter egg hunt will be on the playfield at the Jackson Avenue entrance to the park.

Parking will be available both at the Jackson and Lund entrances. Kitsap Live Steamers will provide mini-train rides from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The egg hunt is open to children 10 and younger who are accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. The first 400 children signed in will receive a free stuffed animal or toy.

The following organizations and businesses are presenting the event: Fathoms O’ Fun, Port Orchard Soroptimist, Kitsap Live Steamers, Port Orchard Rotary, Kiwanis of South Kitsap, South Kitsap Eagles, Kitsap Credit Union, Peninsula Credit Union, Port Orchard A&W restaurant and Dana Soyat at Windermere.

This year, children from more than 300 families are expected to take part in the search for plastic candy-filled eggs and the Easter bunny, event volunteer Sharron King said. For more information, call 360-871-1805.

There are other Easter Egg hunts and Easter Day celebrations in the South Kitsap area, as well. Spirit of Life Lutheran Church is hosting a festival with crafts, stories and an opportunity to pose for photos with the Easter bunny. The event takes place Saturday, April 15 at 2 p.m. at the church, 3901 SE Mullenix Rd. in Port Orchard.

Also on Saturday: First Christian Church in Port Orchard, 4885 SW Hovde Rd., will have an Easter egg hunt for children who are in grade 6 and below. The egg scramble takes place at 10 a.m. after a free pancake breakfast, which runs from 9-9:50 a.m.

In Olalla, Olalla Elementary will host an Easter egg hunt both at the school and at Triangle Park.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, children 8 and younger will make a mad dash for eggs on the elementary school grounds. Those who are 9 and older will hunt for Easter eggs at the park. Those attending are asked to arrive by 9:45 a.m.

On Sunday, April 16, Operation Hop Drop in South Kitsap will happen at Sedgwick Junior High, 8995 SE Sedgwick Rd., between 1 and 2 p.m. Sponsors said 25,000 Easter eggs will be up for grabs. The Easter Bunny will parachute in with his skydiving friends at 1 p.m. The event will also include games and snacks for kids.
