Weekend Roundup: Dean fires no-hitter for Olympic; Sauer leads South Kitsap in extra innings

Baseball

Olympic 2, North Mason 0

Trojan senior Keaton Dean dominated North Mason on March 16, tossing a no-hitter as Olympic blanked the Bulldgos, 2-0. It took Dean just 79 pitches to complete the game, striking out eight in the process. Dean hit North Mason outfielder Preston Macomber with a pitch in the sixth; it was his only mistake of the game.

Kylen Periera drove in the game’s first run with an RBI-triple in the bottom of the fifth. Dylan Heino drove in an insurance run in the sixth.

South Kitsap 6, Kentwood 5 (13 innings, Sat. March 17)

Jason Sauer took the ball in a tie game in the bottom of the seventh for South Kitsap and never gave it up. He threw seven scoreless innings, retiring the side in order in the bottom of the 13th after the Wolves had taken the lead on a wild pitch in the top half of the inning.

South Kitsap begins league play Tuesday with an away game at Graham-Kapowsin.

Klahowya 12, Port Townsend 1 (five innings)

Sophomore catcher Nathen Mjor drove in five runs and stole three bases as the Eagles trounced Port Townsend 12-1 in five innings. Shortstop Ben Streck went 2 for 3 with a triple and a double and Chris Danielson drove in a pair of runs with a double in his lone plate apperance. Tanyr Gagnon pitched all five innings, yielding just two hits and striking out 10.
