SK senior diver saves his best for last with 2nd place state finish

Karter Warner saved his best for last as the South Kitsap senior placed second overall with a score of 370.25 in the 4A one-meter diving competition Feb. 20

This feat marked the fourth time in 40 years that SK had two diving medalists make it to the podium, the other diver being Ronan Wilson who landed a 205.30 score and placed eighth overall in the event.

“It feels great” Warner said of his second place finish. “I was definitely training for first place, but getting second isn’t [bad] either.”

Warner said despite the tough competition, he felt confident and sure of his abilities to perform at a high level due to the state experience he’s had in prior years. As a freshman he finished seventh in state, followed up by back-to-back fourth-place finishes in his sophomore and junior years.

“There weren’t many difficulties coming in,” Warner said. “We spent the week prior training for the event. The work we put in to this allowed for everyone to compete at a high level.”

Not accounting his freshman year, Warner finished his SK career placing in at least the top five of all diving events he competed in.
