SK falls to Puyallup in SPSL tournament

South Kitsap and Puyallup have had a number of great battles on the softball diamond over the past few years and their matchup in the final game of the season also went right down to the wire.

Unfortunately, the Wolves wound up on the wrong end of an 8-7 score after Puyallup picked up four runs in the bottom of the sixth to put them ahead 8-6. South Kitsap’s Emma Stamp hit her team-leading seventh home run of the season in the top of the seventh, but that’s as close as they would get.

South Kitsap scored three times in the first four innings — Marisol Bergstrom scored on a passed ball in the top of the first, Brooke Jett ripped an RBI single to center in the third, and Jordan Blas belted a homer to left in the fourth.

Three errors and a couple of hits helped Puyallup get in front 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth, but the Wolves had an answer in the top of the fifth. Bergstrom singled and stole second and then moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch. Stamp then knocked an RBI single to center to give South Kitsap a 5-4 lead.

They took a 6-4 advantage to the bottom of the sixth, but Lauryn Krick smacked a three-run homer as part of a four-run inning that gave the Vikings the lead.

The young Wolves finished the season with a 7-4 record and return 11 of their 13 varsity players next year.
