Pumas play two scoreless draws against Calgary Foothills

Kitsap records fifth and sixth clean sheets in all competitions.

CALGARY, Alb. — The Kitsap Pumas traveled north of the border for a pair of games against the Calgary Foothills, drawing 0-0 on June 24 and 26. Goalkeeper Matt Grosey and his defense now have six shutouts on the season between PDL league play and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The Pumas were on the front foot for the majority of both games, testing Calgary’s back line on multiple occasions. On both days, Kitsap came inches away from a victory, denied either by difficult saves from Foothills goalkeeper Dylon Powley or by barely missing the target.

With the two points gutted out on the road, Kitsap sits in sixth place on seven points in the league table, one ahead of the Portland Timbers U23.

The Pumas now finish the regular season with four straight games at home, beginning on June 29 against the Seattle Sounders U23. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Gordon Field. It will be the first home game for Kitsap in more than a month.

The Kitsap Pumas enter their eighth season in the Premier Development League in 2016 after winning the Northwest Division for the fourth time in 2015. The Pumas won the PDL national championship in 2011 and advanced to the national final again in 2014, establishing themselves as a reputable professional club with a proven record of moving players onto the next level in the process. Kitsap plays its home matches at Gordon Field, an intimate 1,500-capacity stadium on the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton, Wash.
