TACOMA — Blythe Peterson did Kingston High proud in its first wrestling season out of the gate. The 145-pounder earned fifth place at the girl’s 4A Washington State Mat Classic XX Championship at the Tacoma Dome on Saturday.

“She came to wrestle, to tell you the truth,” said Buccaneers head coach Bobby Reece. “This was a wrestler who competed at the state tournament last year, and she knew what it was all about. It didn’t surprise me that she did well.

Fellow Bucs Alex Lambert, Willis Castle and Logan Hixon all went two-and-out in the double elimination tournament.

North Kitsap senior Anthony Lindfors has earned a place on his school’s wall of fame. The 160-pound Lindfors placed seventh in his weight division at the state tournament. His first win was a pin against Lance Lahren of Kentwood.

“It’s cool to pin your opponent at state,” said Vikings head wrestling coach Jon Cooke.

As a seventh-place finisher, Lindfors’ name will be emblazoned on the plaque that adorns the wall in the wrestling team’s practice space.

In his second match, Lindfors was defeated by Richard Reed of Snohomish. The defeat put Lindfors in a match that would decide seventh and eighth place, in which he defeated Carrington Long of Redmond 8-1, Cooke said.

Senior Matt Cordell, who also represented North Kitsap, didn’t place in the double-elimination tournament.

Cordell was defeated in his first round by George King of Lake Stevens, who went on to take the No. 1 spot in the 140-pound class. His second loss was to Jesse Whitte of Tahoma.
