POULSBO — After last Tuesday’s Vikings versus Gig Harbor Tides loser-out basketball game, head coach Tony Chisholm was all smiles.
A smile that might indicate a much-needed tally in the W column. However, the Vikes season ended and the Tides advanced in their bid for a berth in the state tournament with a 67-58 victory.
POULSBO — Defense secured the Poulsbo Middle Panthers basketball team’s season opener win against Klahowya Eagles Tuesday, 55-30.
“I thought we played real well once we switched to man-to-man defense,” said head coach Glen Godfrey. “That changed the game.”

POULSBO — Tony Chisholm was scratching his head at the end of the North Kitsap vs. Central Kitsap rivalry game Wednesday night. He glanced at the scoreboard, which glared back at him with a score he didn’t like: CK, 75; NK 56.

POULSBO — The North Kitsap High School Vikings just couldn’t get their shots to sink in their 61-47 home loss to Foss on Jan. 9.
“They were a really good basketball team. I wasn’t surprised at all,” Head Coach Tony Chisholm said of Foss. “We didn’t turn the ball over so that didn’t cause the loss. The loss came down to missed shots. We played well enough on defensive end to win. It’s unfortunate that to win the ball has to go through the rim.”
But team’s pitching staff will be new.

SEQUIM — Buccaneers coach Craig Smith saw his team travel into a hostile environment, and come out of the contest unscathed and victorious.
The Kingston High School (6-6-1) girls soccer team picked up its sixth win of the season, defeating the Sequim Wolves (4-9) on its home turf 3-1 in an Olympic League match Tuesday night in Sequim. The victory was crucial in regards to the playoff picture, Smith said.

FIFE — Trojans running back Tyler Cardin proved to be almost unstoppable. Cardin carried the ball just seven times but finished with an astonishing 273 yards in Fife’s 69-14 victory over the Kingston Buccaneers (0-3 overall) Friday night in Fife.
“He’s the most talented player we’ve played against all year,” said Buccaneers coach Dan Novick. “He was real tough to stop and we weren’t able to stop him.”
The Bucs surrendered more than 500 rushing yards to the Trojans.
KINGSTON — There is no doubt the Vikings girls soccer squad is No. 1 in North Kitsap.
The Vikings (4-1-3 overall) won the inaugural showdown between North Kitsap School District’s two high schools, completing a 6-0 victory against the Buccaneers (3-3 overall) Saturday afternoon in a non-league contest at Buccaneer Field in Kingston.
POULSBO — Ryan Cleaver only had one man to beat and he knew what he had to do.
Cleaver juked the socks out of Stadium’s kicker, returning the opening kickoff 95-yards for a touchdown. The score gave the Vikings an early 7-0 lead and the momentum they needed helping propel their eager squad (2-2 overall) to a 35-19 victory against the Tigers Friday night in a Narrows League Bay Division contest in Poulsbo.
ELLENSBURG — The Kingston Buccaneers football squad still is yearning for its first victory. The Colville Indians handed the Buccaneers (0-2) its second loss of the season, during a 40-6 rout of the Buccaneers Saturday in a non-league game in Ellensburg.
Due to Colville and Kingston High School being 373 miles apart, the schools decided to meet up at the Central Washington location for the contest.
