BOZEMAN, MONTANA — The Diamond Dusters North Kitsap select softball finished the season as the best team in the Pacific Northwest. The Dusters advanced to the 18U Amateur Softball Association National Tournament in College Station, Texas after defeating the Yakima Steelers 4-3 in the regional championship tournament July 22 in Bozeman, Mont.
POULSBO — The North Kitsap Babe Ruth 16 to 18 year old baseball team has been to the top before and they want to go back. The talented squad has put forth a sizzling summer record of 16-4 and is vying for the opportunity to return to the Babe Ruth World Series for the second consecutive season. KINGSTON — In a sport known for it’s long distances, Kingston High School Athletic Coordinator Dan Novick didn’t have to run very far to catch the school’s first cross country head coach. Roger Coffman, who has served as a teacher in the North Kitsap School District for 16 years and coached football, track and wrestling at Kingston Junior High for the past 13, was selected last week to help the Buccaneers kick up some dust this fall.
POULSBO — Toria Messinger was the first player to arrive in the gym for Viking Volleyball Camp on Monday morning. She wasn’t required to attend the early morning session, but was giving a novice player pointers on the finer aspects of the games before athletes from the camp’s first session began trickling into North Kitsap High School.
POULSBO — The national pastime literally will be on display in the North End next week as the diamonds at Snider Park play host to the Babe Ruth All-Star state baseball tournament for 13 year olds from July 12-15 in Poulsbo. Tournament co-director Russ Barker said tourneys rotate throughout Washington each year and that he’s excited North Kitsap Babe Ruth has the opportunity to host this year’s event.
POULSBO — In just six weeks, volleyball players will hit practice courts throughout the area, looking to serve, bump, set and spike their way into the fall season. But in an effort to help team members “get back into the groove” even earlier, North Kitsap High School volleyball coach Tim French is offering volleyball netters a chance to improve during the heat of summer.
KINGSTON — Who would have thought Kingston High School would find its newest basketball coach 2,734 miles away? According to MapQuest, if a motorist was to make the drive it would take them 40 hours and seven minutes to complete the trek between Stone Mountain, Ga. and Kingston, Wash.
OXFORD, OHIO — After a nine-month season stretching from September to June, the Kitsap Water Blossoms Synchronized swim team finished its this season in style, competing at the ESYNCHRO Age Group National Championships in Oxford, Ohio from June 22-30. The team advanced in team routine, trio and duet portions after a strong performance at the West Zone Regional Synchronized Swimming Championships on May 19 and 20 in Portland, Ore.
